Insert Surface Spined



 

The Spined Surface command enables you to create a surface by moving one or more boundary curves along one or two drive curves, and controlling its shape by means of an auxiliary curve, called a spine. The spine and one of the two drive curves may be the same curve. The drive curves or spine may be curve chains with tangency continuity, or may be profiles.

The drive curves determine the path that you want the boundary curve or curves to follow in order to create the surface.

The spine curve, on the other hand, determines the plane to which the plane sections interpolated by the final surface belong at each point. In other words, at each point on the spine curve, the section normal to the final surface lies in the plane normal to the spine curve (as defined by the normal and binormal to the spine at each point).

Both of these conditions can be obtained automatically starting with any curve by using the Spined Curve command described in relation to curves.

Associativity
The surfaces created using this command can be associative: associative surfaces are Skins, that is open solids, retaining a link to the base curves, so that if you modify the base curves the surfaces will be modified accordingly; they have a history and are displayed in the Model Structure.
