InsertSheet MetalConvert Solid to Sheet Metal

The Convert Solid to Sheet Metal command makes it very simple to transform an existing solid into a Sheet Metal entity, thus being enabled to rapidly and easily obtain the Flat Pattern View of the selected solid.

First, select the solids to be converted and confirm the command.

Once selected, the solid/static solid will be converted to sheet metal. In case it is not possible to obtain a sheet metal entity from the selected solids, an error message will be issued, reading:

Solid cannot be converted into sheet metal.

On successfully applying this command (without any error message), Undo/Redo is available for this command. Flat Pattern views can be created the usual way, and also Sheet Metal properties can be edited.

Another context menu option Convert Back Sheet Metal to Solid is available in the Model Structure upon using the Convert Solid to Sheet Metal command and if no other sheet metal feature is created on the solid itself. A converted sheet metal can be converted back to regular solid if it does not have any other sheet metal features like flange, unbend etc., So, a regular sheet metal solid cannot be converted back to solid.

By default the command defines automatically the fixed face, that is the one on which the Flat Pattern View should be created. Use Fixed Face option allows to select the fixed face.
