The New Group command enables you to create a group by selecting a set of entities which will be gathered into the group.
- The group can be shared or non-shared, depending on whether the Shared check box is selected or not. The main difference between non-shared and shared groups is once a shared group has been created and set as current, if you edit it and modify it, all the instances of that group will also be modified, differently from what happens with non-shared groups.
- The group has on Origin and a Name.
- The default origin is the center of the selected set of entities. You can change it by right-clicking on Origin, selecting Reset in the context menu and specifying another point. Once the group is created, you can snap to its origin using the Group Origin snap operator.
- The default name for non-shared groups is "Group", the one for shared groups is "sharedGroup#" where # is a sequence number automatically increased by the program at each new shared group creation. You can assign the group a different name by typing it into the Name box.
The new group will be a child of the
Current Group.
