The Mass Properties command calculates and displays the mass properties of one or more selected solids, surfaces and/or meshes. The centers of mass and volume are displayed in the model.

Note

Tolerance used when calculating areas and volumes is defined by the Tolerance option in the General - Advanced category of the Document Properties.

By increasing this tolerance value you reduce execution time but also execution precision. By reducing tolerance you improve execution precision but increase execution time.

The command also enables you to do the following:

set the units of measurement for length and weight individually for both the model and for output
save the calculated data to a file

When you start the command, the program prompts you to select an entity. Click on each solid or surface whose mass properties you want to calculate, and then end selection.

The program calculates the mass properties and then displays the Mass Properties dialog box, in which the following data is displayed:

the number of solids selected
the number and name (if any) of the material (only if a single solid was selected)
density (only if a single solid was selected)
volume
weight
total surface area
coordinates of center of mass
coordinates of center of volume
moments and principal products of inertia
