InsertSurfaceDrafter

The Drafter command enables you to create surfaces along a drive contour and tangent to some other surfaces used as drives. It can be used to add a draft angle to casting and forging parts.

1  —  Drive Curves
2, 3  —  Drive Surfaces

Following is the workflow for the usage of this command.

Suggestions and Warnings
When the surfaces are G1 continuous, two G1 continuous curves can generally create two connected surfaces. Therefore, before using the Drafter command, it is recommended to check the continuity of the contour, and to make the contour G1 continuous if necessary. However, after the computation, if two drafting surfaces generated from two connected curves are not connected due to the fact the two curve are not G1 continuous (as shown in the image on the right), then the Surfaces not connected due to curve position continuity warning is displayed on selecting the Show Warnings () button.

The Transition check box enables you to manage situations where disconnected drafting surfaces are generated when both the drive surfaces and drive curves are not G1 continuous internally.

  • When the check box is selected, some transition surfaces are generated to ensure complete surface continuity, as shown in the image to the right.
  • When the check box is cleared, no transition surfaces are generated, resulting in discontinuity in the drafting surfaces.

The Associative Mode check box enables you to maintain a link between the drafted surfaces and the drive curves from which they were generated.

If you close the command abruptly, your selections and settings are not lost; they are "frozen" in order to enable you to use them again without having to repeat them all. Next time you start the command the Restore Selection button ( ) will be displayed on top of the selection list, which when selected all the previous selections and settings will be restored.

When the command is started with some pre-selected entities, if you click the Restore Selection button you will be asked to confirm restoring the frozen command selections, thus resetting the current selection. Further details in the " Restore Selection modality for selections and settings" document.
