Modify MeshFill Holes

The Fill Mesh Holes command enables you to heal the holes that a model may have when derived from point clouds obtained by scanning. These empty areas are usually due to markers used for shell registration, high-error zones and other reasons.

  1. Select the mesh whose holes you would like to heal.

  2. In the Filling Mode drop-down list, choose the filling method:

Flat the boundary vertices are connected by triangles directly
In curvature tries to construct and fill a surface smoothly extending existing mesh triangles

    Note
Though curvature-based method usually gives much better results, in cases of irregularly shaped hole boundary it may fail (and a warning message will be displayed). Then, a flat filling method may be tried, since it has less stringent requirements to the boundary configuration.

  3. Select the 1st Boundary of the hole you would like to close.

  4. If you want to perform a complete hole fill, confirm the operation by clicking the Apply button , otherwise click another point of the hole boundary.

  5. The first selected point is now considered the 1st boundary start point, the second point is the 1st boundary end point. Select the boundary part by selecting a third - and last - point on it.

  6. Click the Apply button to confirm the operation. At any time you can click the Cancel button to abort the procedure.

Note
If this warning message appears, you must fix the mesh before filling the holes by using the Remove Wrong Faces command.
