Create profiles as simple as possible

Keep in mind that the purpose of 2D profile geometry is to produce 3D features. Since every entity might need to be constrained, use the profile geometry to obtain the basic 3D solid, and add solid features where feasible. This will save time, provide a degree of freedom at the feature level, and will keep the profile light for future modifications on the model.

Approach design tasks with the following in mind:

  1. A 2d drawing is used to create a 3D model.



  2. Here are the two 2D sections to be used. One is very complex, it contains hundreds of holes, slots.



  3. Just extrude both:



  4. The Boolean Intersect Solid feature will complete the job.
