Document Templates

Template files are special type of drawing files(model/drawing) with pre-established settings, properties, attributes and some entities for creating new drawing documents(model/drawing). This will be of great help in order to speed up the activities whenever you need to work on drawing(model/drawing) in a series with the same basic characteristics.

A template is a document that includes some of the following:

  • Document Properties settings (for example: Measurement units, Grid)
  • Entity Properties settings(for example: Dimension and text styles, Linetypes)
  • Layers organization
  • Current environment settings
  • Current settings and attributes to be applied to new entities that will be created
  • All the entities (whatever they are. For example: Logos)
  • ...

A template document (*.e2 or *.e3) is used to begin a new document with customized initial settings and parameters used in a particular type of drawing documents(model/drawing). When you open a new document, it will start in an environment having default settings of the product that are commonly used. However, the settings that come with the product are not good for architectural or interior design type documents, and they must be changed by you to fulfil the requirement.
The easiest way to make these changes permanent is to begin a new document, set the document variables correctly, and then save the same for future. The new document need not only have "entities" in it (lines, arcs, or circles), but it will also include many important variables such as a list of layers, linetypes, dimensioning variables, and text styles which you will not have to set up again for future documents. You simply use this document to begin a new file. This document is known as your "Template".

The application enables you create your own customized document templates as described in the document: How to create customized document templates.
