The Import Partnumbers command imports from a portable file created with the Export Partnumbers command the component data of the parts of a catalog.

You can find this command in the context menu that displays when right-clicking on a catalog in the Catalog Manager browser frame.

Upon execution, the command opens a file selection box that enables you to explore your file system in order to locate the file with the data to be imported. The default file name is the selected catalog name, with extension tppn.
Although the file name is not mandatorily the one proposed by thinkparts, it must have been created for an existing catalog, otherwise the import operation will fail, indicating a Wrong catalog name error message.
Use the Import command to import the catalog if your installation does not have an appropriate one.

Once the part numbers have been imported (you may have to refresh the Contents tab to visualize the codified parts) you may use them in your assemblies and BOM's as the are recognized as thinkPLM components by the system.

Import issues

Whenever you import data in an existing structure, a few issues arise concerning the data already existing or the receiving data structure (thinkPLM database configuration) not matching the sender's. Among these:

The catalog does not exist   An error is displayed and the operation is immediately interrupted. Use the Import command to import a suitable catalog
The part in the catalog does not exist   An error is displayed and the operation is interrupted.
The component does not exist   A new component will be created with all the attributes available in the receiving structure
The component exists and is released   No action will be taken
The component exists and is not released   The component attributes will be updated with the new values
One or more attributes do not exist in the receiving structure   The attribute(s) will be ignored
