Rules for applying constraints

Profiles from which you will create solids (for example, by applying a linear sweep or extrusion), should generally be created when the Work Plane is set to World. When you create a profile used to add a feature to a solid (such as a slot, hole, or protrusion), however, you should first position the Work Plane to the face on which you want to add the feature, so that the profile is constrained to lie on that face.

When the Work Plane is not set to World (that is, the Work Plane is not the xy-plane of the World coordinate system), the following constraints should be avoided:

When you create a profile on a Work Plane aligned with the face of an existing solid (for the purpose of adding a feature to that solid), you should constrain the direction of that profile relative to the solid using any of the following constraints:
