Converting from IGES 2D to think3

The think3 application can load IGES 2D drawings generated with other CAD programs.

General warning on conversion of 2D IGES drawings to think3

To know exactly which IGES entities are converted to think3 and, if they are, which the corresponding think3 entities are, see the conversion table.

In general, this is what happens:

  • IGES attributes (Level, Line Font Pattern, Color, Line Weight, Font) are converted to their think3 corresponding properties (Layer, Line Type, Color, Line Width, Font). IGES Level 0 can be mapped to think3 Layer 1 using the Edit layer matching check box (in the General page of the IGES Options dialog box, once you set the 2D option)
  • IGES Dimensions are converted to think3 corresponding dimensions
  • IGES General Note entities are converted to their component texts. Conversion of IGES texts can be controlled by the parameters of the Text page of the IGES Options dialog box, once you set the 2D option.
  • Non-visible entities (whose Status Number — columns 65:72 of the first line of the record for the entity in the DIRECTORY ENTRY SECTION —  starts with the two characters 01) can be converted or not, according to the status of the Convert non-visible entities check box (in the General category of the IGES Options dialog box, once you set the 2D option)
  • IGES Sectioned Area entities are controlled by the Multiplication factor: and Hatching slant angle in the Geometry page of the IGES Options dialog box, once you set the 2D option.
