Advanced search
The Search tab enables you to search for information throughout the Help. You find it in the left-hand side in the Navigation Frame.
The Favorites tab enables you to create a list of favorite topics, which you can access quickly.
You can find the following instructions to perform advanced search:
Search for information by using the Search tab
The Search tab enables you to search for:
- Single words
- Whole phrases
To search for a phrase, use quotes ("), otherwise the single words will be searched instead.
Searching:
- Is case-insensitive
- Ignores punctuation marks: period (.), semicolon (;), comma (,), colon(:) and hyphen (-).

To search topics, do the following:
- In the Type in the word(s) to search for box, enter the word or phrase to search for (you can use wildcard and/or operators, or even nested expressions).
- If necessary, set the search and refinement filters.
- Click List Topics to obtain a list of the topics containing the word/phrase you were searching for.
- Select a document in the list and click Display to view it. The word/phrase you searched for will be highlighted in the document text.
Use wildcards
You can use the following wildcards as described:
* |
in the place of any number of any characters, even none. For example: Custom* finds: Custom, Customize, Customized, and so on. |
? |
in the place of just one character, whichever it is. For example:
?ree finds: tree, free, and so on. |
Use search filters and refine your search
You can apply a search filter as follows:
- To search only in titles:
- Select Search Titles only.
The indicated word/phrase will be searched only in the topic titles and not in the documents.
- To search similar words:
- Select Match similar words.
Words similar to the indicated one will be searched for as well (for example: view-views).
- To refine the search results, after a list has been displayed:
- Select Search previous results.
The list you get can be ordered:
- By titles:
- Click on the Title heading.
- By location:
- Click on the Location heading.
- By rank:
- Click on the Rank.
Use operators
Clicking the arrow adjacent to the Type in the word(s) to search for box, you can choose the following operators from the drop-down list:
AND |
Between two words, finds topics containing both of them |
OR |
Between two words, finds topics containing one |
NEAR |
Between two words, finds topics containing both of them and close together |
NOT |
Between two words, finds topics containing only one of the two |
Use complex search expressions (nested expressions)
Combining the words/phrases properly by using the operators, you can create complex search expressions. Notice the following:
- If there are more than one operators, expressions are evaluated from left to right ("view NOT perspective OR isometric" finds topics containing "view" but not "perspective", or the ones containing "isometric")
- Expressions can be nested by using brackets. Expressions within brackets are evaluated before the others ("view NOT (perspective OR isometrics)" finds topics containing "view" without either of "perspective" and "isometric")
- The maximum nesting level is five.
Add topics to the Favorites tab
You can create your own list of frequently used topics and add topics to it. To add a topic to the Favorites list, do the following:
- Display the topic.
- Select the Favorites tab and select Add.
