  • Is case-insensitive
  • Ignores punctuation marks: period (.), semicolon (;), comma (,), colon(:) and hyphen (-).

To search topics, do the following:

  1. In the Type in the word(s) to search for box, enter the word or phrase to search for (you can use wildcard and/or operators, or even nested expressions).
  2. If necessary, set the search and refinement filters.
  3. Click List Topics to obtain a list of the topics containing the word/phrase you were searching for.
  4. Select a document in the list and click Display to view it. The word/phrase you searched for will be highlighted in the document text.

Use wildcards

You can use the following wildcards as described:

* in the place of any number of any characters, even none. For example: Custom*  finds: Custom, Customize, Customized, and so on.
? in the place of just one character, whichever it is. For example:
?ree  finds: tree, free, and so on.

Use search filters and refine your search

You can apply a search filter as follows:

The list you get can be ordered:

Use operators

Clicking the arrow adjacent to the Type in the word(s) to search for box, you can choose the following operators from the drop-down list:

AND Between two words, finds topics containing both of them
OR Between two words, finds topics containing one
NEAR Between two words, finds topics containing both of them and close together
NOT Between two words, finds topics containing only one of the two

Use complex search expressions (nested expressions)

Combining the words/phrases properly by using the operators, you can create complex search expressions. Notice the following:

  1. If there are more than one operators, expressions are evaluated from left to right ("view NOT perspective OR isometric" finds topics containing "view" but not "perspective", or the ones containing "isometric")
  2. Expressions can be nested by using brackets. Expressions within brackets are evaluated before the others ("view NOT (perspective OR isometrics)" finds topics containing "view" without either of "perspective" and "isometric")
  3. The maximum nesting level is five.

Add topics to the Favorites tab

You can create your own list of frequently used topics and add topics to it. To add a topic to the Favorites list, do the following:

  1. Display the topic.
  2. Select the Favorites tab and select Add.
